I Think I Want To Reformat My Hard Drive…

I've been wanting to do this for the past year…but I'm chicken…and really afraid I'll fuck something up…so bad that my 'puter'll be toast.

Anybody know of a good online tutorial with step by step (and I do mean step by step…details, people…I need details) instructions on what to do?

My lappy is so freakin' slow and I've tried a few tweaks and the usual disk cleanup/defrag… but nothing really makes a big difference. I remember when I first got it….so fast to start up and move around….but now she's a bit grandma-ish (no offense to the grannies!) and I'd like to start *almost* fresh with just the stuff I want to keep.

Any help is greatly appreciated and would stop me from making bad jokes about floppy disks becoming hard drives…..heh.

when my baby started acting old (when she wasn't really), i immediately got an external drive and put all the stuff on there that i don't use on a daily basis – ie pics (esp these as they take up loads of space), documents, etc. even if you defrag, it won't make a diff if you still have loads of stuff on there. not sure if you backup via external, but that's something you sould do just for safe keeping. nowadays, the only thing i keep at my disposal directly on my comp is my music. the rest of occupied space is strictly programs. she's not as fast as when i got her, but my graphics programs run a hell of a lot better.
and yeah, deleting unnecessary programs is a good idea as well. if i find something on how to reformat a harddrive, i'll pass it along…although, i've never really searched.
**my apologies on the whole external drive bit if you already know that – not sure how much of 'puter geek you are. 🙂

lol…thanks. Yeah..>I have an external that I use for backup and I guess I could move some more stuff over like photos. Guess if I chicken out of a reformatting…that'll be the next best thing.

tee heee…oopsies 🙂 so much for my two cents – not worth too much 😛

nah…that's a good idea about moving pictures and stuff. I save most of my pictures in their RAW form…so they are all pretty big files.
